Isolation of Spindle Driving System

To avoid transferring the heat generated in a spindle motor to a main spindle, the main spindle is connected with a high-speed and high-torque spindle drive motor by using a diaphragm-type coupling, as shown in Fig. 4-3. Consequently, the objective spindle system can be isolated from the heat source, because the heat flow from the spindle motor can be shut off at the diaphragm-type coupling.
